The power station on the moon Bodhisattva 2a is failing; without it, the inhabitants of Siddhartha’s Peace, the small Neo-Buddhist colony established there, will freeze to death. Abbot Benz-Shiroyuki requests aid. Print a new power converter at the Manufactory and as payment, receive salvage rights to the decommissioned Terraforming Tower at the top of the moon’s space elevator.

In his briefing, the abbot neglects to mention the tower’s AI has come to believe itself a manifestation of the deity Bishamonten. Pushed by Straylight LLC and the dire conditions in Siddhartha’s Peace, the AI is set on taking extreme measures to protect the colony, even if it requires feeding it to the flames of revolution.

This Kickstarter is my chance to give Nirvana on Fire the deluxe treatment I always envisioned for it. From the beginning, I had Jérôme's psychedelic metaphysical art in mind as the perfect tonal compliment to the ideas in the book. Once I brought him on, I knew I had to go big. I hired Roz to help expand the world and fill in some of the original zine’s mysteries with new, complex intrigues. James followed, bringing his experience with Buddhism to enrich its representation in the text and present the beliefs of the inhabitants of Siddhartha’s Peace as a plausible and vibrant (if beleaguered) branch of the world religion of today.

My motto is to never put out anything I wouldn’t be stoked to receive. So we’re taking the time we need to get this zine perfectly polished and ready for you all. Here’s how we plan to make that happen.

The State of the Zine. The PDF is nearly ready to go! The additions are written, the copy is edited, the pages are 80% laid out, and all the art is in. Soon after this campaign closes, the digital edition of Nirvana on Fire: Expanded Edition is coming your way.

How about the physical rewards? We’re partnering with Panda Game Manufacturing to ensure the zines and boxed sets come out at the high level of quality we’ll be proud to ship to our backers. Known for producing some of the world’s biggest and most beautiful board games such as Wingspan and the original Root, we know we are in good hands.

What’s happening between now and July? We’re preparing print files, reviewing production samples, and approving them when they are dialled in. When production wraps, Panda will ship them out to our fulfilment partners who will then pass them on to you. Sounds easy enough perhaps, but making a great project takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to get right (just ask me how long it took to confirm that the black values were all correct on my last project). It takes time to ensure things get done right, and by this point, we all know about the troubled state of global shipping. That’s why we’ve given ourselves a generous timeline in which to create, produce, and ship the physical components for this campaign. We’ll be working hard every day to ensure you reap the rewards of putting your trust and money into making this adventure a reality.
